The environmental requirement is growing

In the former Kai Tak airport district, design-build contract for the construction of a 22-storey building, which will house various government agencies, primarily departments of the Ministry of Trade and Industry. Inside the building, 75% of all work areas are able to receive natural sunlight. To maximise the flexibility of the workspace, the building features a “column-free” design. Through the adoption of a post-tensioning slab, a thin flat slab was created without the need for beams. This enabled the creation of column-free spaces more than 15m wide, while also using minimum construction resources.

Environement

The Trade and Industry Tower embodies environmental excellence. Everything contributed to enabling this ultra-modern building to qualify for double certification – LEED Platinum, the North American standards system for high environmental quality buildings, and BEAM Platinum, the environmental label awarded by the Hong Kong authorities. The criteria on which it was assessed included energy and heating efficiency, low water consumption, use of locally procured construction materials, and the reuse of surplus materials.
